Q&A: Sept. 10

Question: I took your advice last fall on Heroes and Friday Night Lights. Good calls on both of them. Could you please recommend a couple of series that I can commit to right off the bat?
Bart Long

Answer: The new fall season doesn't look as promising as the old, but I like both NBC's Chuck and Life, and Fox's Back To You. I'm not quite as sold as others so far on ABC's Pushing Daisies, but will give it a second look. For a series that definitely looks as though it will have staying power, try ABC's Dirty, Sexy Money. And stay tuned for full reviews of all of these series and many more in the coming weeks.

Question: Is there any good reason that Everybody Loves Raymond has disappeared from Channel 33's evening lineup (from 10 to 11 p.m. weeknights)? Surely the ratings were OK. Now we're inundated with the filth that passes as Family Guy and Two and a Half Men. What happened?
Gerald Page

Answer: Ratings indeed were decent for Raymond, but Ch. 33 has opted for fresher product that might well appeal to younger audiences. It's all about the "demo" and has been for some time. This is small solace, but you can still record Raymond repeats if you'd like. They now air from 1 to 2 a.m. on Ch. 33. Or, better yet, Raymond is being triple-run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. weekdays on TBS cable.

Question: Do you happen to know a start date for a new series coming to HBO called True Blood? Some of us are big fans of the Charlaine Harris books the series is based on.
Pepi Wucher

Answer: The vampire-themed True Blood, being adapted for HBO by Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball, is scheduled to go into production this fall. So it won't show up on HBO until some time next year. My best guess is summertime, perhaps where the since canceled John From Cincinnati would have been. Anna Paquin will be starring as waitress Sookie Stackhouse, who falls in love with a bloodsucker.
