ABC's second episode of Pushing Daisies pretty much amounted to an hour-long acid trip Wednesday night. Fewer viewers took it, instead preferring the open-and-shut cases of NBC's competing Deal or No Deal.
Daisies drooped to 148,572 D-FW homes after last week's premiere drew 207,026. Advertiser-craved 18-to-49-year-olds also watched in significantly fewer numbers -- from 145,700 for the premiere to 96,100 the second time around.
ABC's Grey's Anatomy spinoff, Private Practice, then perked up to take the 8 to 9 p.m. slot in both total homes and among 18-to-49-year-olds. It was the most-watched program of the night in the latter measurement. NBC's competing Bionic Woman, energized by the return of battered, tattered first BW Sarah Corvus, ran third in total homes and second in the 18-to-49 demo.
CBS' CSI: NY then cleaned up at 9 p.m. in both audience measurements, with ABC's new Dirty Sexy Money running second.
Sad to report, Fox's reliably funny Back to You finished far back at 7 p.m. It placed fifth in total homes and fourth (barely ahead of CBS' Kid Nation) with 18-to-49-year-olds.
In the local news derby, CBS11's 10 p.m. edition feasted off a prime lead-in from CSI: NY to tie Belo8 for first in total homes. But CBS11 was the only newscast to lose some of the viewers it inherited. Take a look:
Belo8
9:45 to 10 p.m. lead-in (Dirty Sexy Money) -- 136,394 homes
10 p.m. news -- 185,106 homes
CBS11
Lead-in (CSI: NY) -- 272,787 homes
10 p.m. news -- 185,106 homes
NBC5
Lead-in (Life) -- 138,829 homes
10 p.m. news -- 155,878 homes
Fox4
Lead-in (9 p.m. local news) -- 82,810 homes
10 p.m. news -- 114,473 homes
NBC5 rebounded at 10 p.m. to win among 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming. CBS11 slid to third in that key audience demo.
Fox4 remained king of the early mornings, again prevailing at 6 a.m. in both audience measurements although Belo8 made it close among 25-to-54-year-olds. Even more impressively, the 7 to 9 a.m. portion of Fox4's Good Day now has beaten the three network morning shows across the board for seven consecutive days. And it wasn't that close.
Fox4 also ran first at 5 p.m. with 25-to-54-year-olds and tied Belo8 for the top spot in that measurement at 6 p.m. Belo8 had the edge in total homes at both hours.
