Ups and downs make for interesting times in the D-FW newscast ratings.
At 10 p.m. Monday, Belo8 smoked the competition in the total homes numbers, hauling in 321,499 to rank as the most-watched program of the day.
But NBC turned the tables with a narrow 10 p.m. win among 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming. It's the Peacock's first 10 p.m. victory during the initial three weeknights of the February "sweeps," which began last Thursday.
Fox4 also hit the winner's circle at 6 a.m. for the first time, ranking first, ahead of Belo8, in both ratings measurements. Good Day, the defending sweeps champ, likely benefited from promotion during Fox's socko Super Bowl-paced Sunday. So we'll see what Tuesday brings. The 7 to 9 a.m. portion of Good Day ran a solid second to ABC's Good Morning America after running the table on Friday.
Belo8 swept the 5 and 6 p.m. news competitions.
In prime-time, the premiere of CBS' new Welcome to the Captain sitcom ran second at 7:30 p.m. in total homes (behind ABC's Dance War). But NBC's American Gladiators again won among 18-to-49-year-olds, the key advertiser target audience for entertainment programming. A new episode of Fox's made-in-North Texas Prison Break again dragged bottom from 7 to 8 p.m., ranking fourth in both measurements.
ABC's 90-minute 20/20 special controlled the 8:30 to 10 p.m. Nielsens.
Also of note: NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno, still without writers, easily bested CBS' writer-infused Late Show with David Letterman despite the latter talker's heavy promotion of special guest Hillary Clinton. And the Dallas Mavericks continued to be less than a blockbuster in the D-FW ratings. Monday night's win over Orlando on Fox Sports Southwest averaged just 26,792 total homes.
