Buoyed by a big Dancing with the Stars lead-in, ABC's new Body of Proof crime series got off the mark impressively Tuesday night opposite new episodes of CBS and NBC dramas.
The Dana Delany-spiked whodunit drew 304,731 D-FW viewers after inheriting 477,873 from the preceding Dancing results show (outta here, Mike Catherwood). CBS' The Good Wife (186,994 viewers) ran a distant second in the 9 p.m. hour, followed by Fox4's local newscast (152,365) and NBC's Parenthood (117,737).
Body of Proof slipped to second at 9 p.m. among advertiser-craved 18-to-49-year-olds, though, with Fox4's news on top and Good Wife sliding to fourth.
Dancing's results hour swept the 8 p.m. competitions, but a 7 p.m. recap ran behind CBS' new episode of NCIS (408,616 total viewers) in both ratings measurements.
Again given the rare luxury of a bounteous ABC lead-in, WFAA8's 10 p.m. newscast cruised to an easy win in total viewers (263,177) while nipping CBS11 for the top spot among 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming.
Those were WFAA8's only news derby wins of the day, though. Fox4 rolled to a dominant doubleheader sweep at 6 a.m. And for the second straight day, its number of 25-to-54-year-old viewers was more than the combined totals for NBC5, WFAA8 and CBS11.
The latter station's Scott Sams-less waker upper continued to drift toward invisibility among 25-to-54-year-olds, drawing just 9,320 of 'em compared to Fox4's 86,988. Still, that was a towering number compared to the following CBS Early Show, which had "hashmarks" (no measurable audience) in this key demographic for its 8 to 9 a.m. hour. Even sister station TXA21's Jody Dean Live (a simulcast of his local radio show) beat the closing hour of Early Show.
The early evening spoils were divided between NBC5, which ran the table at 5 p.m., and Fox4, which did likewise at 6 p.m.
