Another summertime "reality competition" show flexed its peccadilloes Thursday, with the premiere of ABC's Expedition: Impossible ranking as prime-time's biggest attraction.
E:Imp lured 228,548 D-FW viewers in the 8 p.m. hour against wall-to-wall repeats on CBS, NBC and Fox. The latest concoction from reality maestro Mark Burnett (The Voice, Survivor) likewise dominated the night among advertiser-favored 18-to-49-year-olds.
Fox's So You Think You Dance won at 7 p.m. in that key demographic, but the total viewer victories went to CBS' Big Bang Theory rerun and the second half-hour of ABC's Wipeout. At 9 p.m., CBS' reprise of The Mentalist took the total viewers gold but ABC's Rookie Blue easily won with 18-to-49-year-olds.
ESPN devoted the entire night to the 2011 NBA draft, which attracted comparatively minimal interest with an overall average of 96,960 total viewers. It fared a bit better with 18-to-49-year-olds, but still couldn't outdraw any of the aforementioned time slot winners.
Thursday's local news derby results brought twin wins at 10 p.m. for CBS11, which was tops in both total viewers and 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming.
NBC5 likewise swept the 6 a.m. Nielsens, taking two golds for the second straight weekday while May "sweeps" champ Fox4 slept in.
Fox4 scored at 5 and 6 p.m., though, winning both competitions in the 25-to-54 demographic.
CBS11 had the 6 p.m. edge in total viewers while NBC5 won at 5 p.m. in that measurement.
