Local Nielsen ratings snapshot (Thurs., Sept. 16) -- CW makes marks with Vampire Diaries, Nikita

By ED BARK
Mostly reruns pockmarked Thursday's prime-time landscape, giving The CW's two first-run dramas a chance to get noticed just three days before the official fall season begins.

Both The Vampire Diaries and Nikita did well among advertiser-coveted 18-to-49-year-olds. Vampire Diaries drew 71,755 viewers in this key demographic to run a very close second from 7 to 8 p.m. behind NBC's two repeats of The Office.

An 8 p.m. new episode of Nikita then inched up to 75,017 viewers in the 18-to-49 age range, beating everything except CBS' pair of Big Bang Theory reruns. That included the first hour of Donald Trump's The Apprentice, which is bombing in D-FW.

The CW's sex-slaked 9 p.m. local newscast, which included another commentary by Anna ("Some call me the sexy Russian") Fermanova, then dipped to 35,878 viewers. Still, that was good enough for a rare 18-to-49 win over Fox4's 9 p.m. news (32,616 viewers).

In Thursday's four-way local news competitions, WFAA8 won at 10 p.m. in total viewers while NBC5 ran first with 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming on most stations.

Fox4 scored twin wins at 6 a.m. and WFAA8 did likewise at 6 p.m. The 5 p.m. spoils went to WFAA8 in total viewers and NBC5 in the 25-to-54 measurement.
