Fox's The X Factor dared to play musical chairs with ABC's Country Music Association awards Wednesday night. The twangers hit all the ratings high notes.
X Factor's 7 to 9 p.m. performance edition drew a nice-sized 298,060 D-FW viewers, but was no match the three-hour CMA shebang. It had 453,865 viewers overall and 460,639 in the two hours directly opposite X Factor.
The CMAs also won among advertiser-favored 18-to-49-year-olds, but by a much smaller margin. X Factor averaged 166,520 viewers in this key demographic while "Country Music's Biggest Night" logged 182,531 for the full show and 176,127 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Nothing else mattered all that much. But for the record, CBS11's top total viewers performer, Criminal Minds, had 203,223 in the 8 p.m. hour and NBC's biggest draw, Law & Order: SVU, drew 182,901 from 9 to 10 p.m.
In local news derby results, WFAA8 bolted away from the CMA's closing credits to start its 10 p.m. news at 9:58 p.m. The ABC station won easily in total viewers (298,060) and 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming.
Fox4 controlled the 6 a.m. Nielsens in both ratings measurements while WFAA8 continued to make progress with a pair of second place finishes ahead of NBC5.
The early evening spoils were split. CBS11 won at both 5 and 6 p.m. in total viewers. The 25-to-54 golds respectively went to NBC5 and Fox4.
