American Idol's audition show from Chicago cruised through the 7 p.m. hour Tuesday, drawing more viewers than the combined hauls for ABC, CBS and NBC. It helped, though, that CBS' competing NCIS was in reruns.
Fox's Idol had 597,194 D-FW viewers compared to 264,666 for NCIS. The margin was even more lopsided among advertiser-coveted 18-to-49-year-olds, with Idol drawing 303,329 viewers in this age range while the first hour of NBC's second-place The Biggest Loser had 101,110.
CBS' reprise of NCIS: Los Angeles won at 8 p.m. in total viewers, beating Fox's repeat of the first episode of Human Target. But the CBS crime-stopper slid to third among 18-to-49-year-olds, with the second hour of Biggest Loser edging Target in this measurement.
Fox4's 9 p.m. local newscast then won in both ratings barometers, with a repeat of CBS' The Good Wife taking the silvers.
In local news derby results, WFAA8 won the 10 p.m. crown in total viewers, with Fox4 making a rare appearance in first place among 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming.
NBC5 prevailed at 6 a.m. in total viewers while sharing the gold with Fox4 in the 25-to-54 demographic.
WFAA8 had the 5 and 6 p.m. golds in total viewers. But Fox4 remained strong among 25-to-54-year-olds, taking first place at both hours by commanding margins.
