Local Nielsen ratings snapshot (Tues., April 14) -- NCIS repeat ties Idol

By ED BARK
This doesn't usually happen in other big markets. But in No. 5 D-FW, Fox's American Idol and CBS' NCIS rerun were in a horse race Tuesday night.

The two shows tied in the 7 p.m. hour with 305,578 viewers apiece; on March 17th, a new NCIS episode outdrew Idol for the only time this season.

Fox easily held serve among advertiser-coveted 18-to-49-year-olds, though, with Idol amassing 142,613 viewers in this age range compared to 84,271 for NCIS. Among viewers 55 years and older, NCIS won by a lopsided score of 225,600 to 118,400.

ABC's Dancing with the Stars (318,864 total viewers) controlled the 8 p.m. Nielsens, with CBS' The Mentalist (245,791) and Fox's Fringe (192,647) trailing. But Fringe moved up to No. 2 among 18-to-49-year-olds while Mentalist drooped to fourth behind the closing hour of NBC's The Biggest Loser.

CBS' Without A Trace won at 9 p.m. in both ratings measurements and also had the biggest overall audience of the night (365,365 viewers). ABC's new Cupid ran fourth across the board at 9 p.m.

On Fox Sports Southwest, the Texas Rangers' fifth consecutive loss averaged 86,359 total viewers.

In local news derby results, CBS11 moved into the 10 p.m. winner's circle with 272,363 viewers. WFAA8, second in that measurement, rebounded to win among 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming.

Fox4 and NBC5 tied at 6 a.m. in total viewers, but Fox4 had the gold with 25-to-54-year-olds.

WFAA8 again perked up at 5 and 6 p.m., running the table for the second straight weekday.
