Game 1 of the storied Stanley Cup playoffs and two hours of a made-for-TV dance competition went head-to-head Wednesday night. You can probably guess the outcome.
Fox's So You Think You Can Dance lured 166,217 D-FW viewers while NBC's 1-0 Vancouver-Boston thriller averaged 76,183 viewers. But a repeat of CBS' Criminal Minds beat both of them in the 8 p.m. hour with 180,068 viewers before the network's reprise of Blue Bloods edged Fox4's local newscast at 9 p.m.
Fox/Fox4 otherwise dominated the night among advertiser-craved 18-to-49-year-olds, with Dance making the biggest haul of 108,590 viewers in this key demographic while the news easily outpointed NBC's runner-up Stanley Cup coverage from 9 to 10 p.m.
Over in the cable universe, the premiere of TNT's Franklin & Bash legal drama drew 103,886 viewers in the 8 p.m. hour, with 62,521 of them within the 18-to-49 motherlode. That's not too bad for starters, but not great either.
Wednesday's local news derby results had ice cream cones for everybody.
WFAA8 won at 10 p.m. in total viewers, ranking as Wednesday's biggest overall draw with a haul of 221,622. The ABC station likewise took the top spot with 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming.
Fox4 held serve at 6 a.m. with twin wins while also controlling the 5 p.m. proceedings among 25-to-54-year-olds. NBC5 had the 5 p.m. win in total viewers.
CBS11 ran first at 6 p.m. in total viewers while WFAA8 reigned in the 25-to-54 demographic.
