ABC's potent combo of Dancing with the Stars and Castle ruled Monday's prime-time Nielsens before WFAA8 happily lapped up the proceeds with its first late night doubleheader win during the ongoing May "sweeps."
Dancing dominated the 7 to 9 p.m. slot with 413,964 total viewers before Castle handily won the 9 p.m. hour with 332,529. Both series also called the tune among advertiser-favored 18-to-49-year-olds while Fox ran second across the board with House, 24 and Fox4's 9 p.m. local newscast.
The sun continued to set on CBS' once unbeatable CSI: Miami, which took the bronze in both ratings measurements.
On a night when killer tornados decimated parts of Oklahoma, WFAA8 kept the lion's share of its Castle lead-in to win at 10 p.m. with 278,238 total viewers. The ABC station also won among 25-to-54-year-olds, the principal advertiser target audience for news programming. WFAA8 had been an also-ran in this key measurement for the first seven week nights of the sweeps.
Fox4 continued its comeback at 6 a.m., running the table against NBC5 for the third straight weekday.
WFAA8 won in total viewers at both 5 and 6 p.m., but continued to struggle with 25-to-54-year-olds. Fox4 claimed both golds among viewers in that age range.
Also of note: CW33's 9 p.m. local news nipped a new episode of NBC's Law & Order to take fourth place at that hour with 18-to-49-year-olds.
