Born in Garland and still living in his homeland, 21-year-old Chris Koehl is the only Texan to make the top 20 finalists on Fox's So You Think You Can Dance.

Koehl, whose speciality is hip hop, has been self-taught since the age of 14 according to his Fox bio. He later took some formal classes. In a Q&A on fox.com, Koehl says he is dyslexic, one of seven children and home schooled. He currently is a dance instructor at Denton Dance Conservatory and Revelation Dance Studio, and was studying at Richland College before taking the past semester off to perfect his dance skills for Season 8 of the Fox summertime hit.

Koehl additionally reveals that he can "wiggle my ears and I'm really good at checkers."

Garland also is the world headquarters of unclebarky.com, whose friendly content provider likewise can wiggle his ears. And Garland was the inspiration for Mike Judge's King of the Hill series.

ON OTHER "REALITY COMPETITION" FRONTS . . . Auditions for the next edition of ABC's The Bachelor will be held in Dallas on Saturday, June 18th from 3 to 7 p.m. at WFAA8's Victory Park studios, 3030 Olive Street.

The show has had numerous bachelors and suitors with North Texas ties, including inaugural pretty boy Alex Michel and the latter day Jake Pavelka, whose nasty breakup with Vienna Girardi became a tabloid sensation. The show's host is Dallas native Chris Harrison.

WFAA8's Victory Park studios also will host the Dallas auditions for Season 3 of ABC's Shark Tank. They're on Saturday, June 25th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was a guest "shark" on the recently concluded Season 2.
