Paul Reiser's return to prime-time was a big dud while Will Ferrell's first of a four-episode arc on The Office gave NBC an unaccustomed high.
The former Mad About You star's self-titled The Paul Reiser Show ended up as Thursday's least-watched attraction with just 62,331 D-FW viewers at 7:30 p.m. The Office then trampolined to 242,400 viewers in finishing a solid second to Fox's new 8 p.m. episode of Bones (297,805 viewers).
The Office won its time slot among advertiser-favored 18-to-49-year-old viewers, though, while CBS went with wall-to-wall repeats and ABC offered only a new 7 p.m. episode of Wipeout before opting for reruns of its two hospital dramas. Reiser also ran fourth with 18-to-49-year-olds.
Fox's American Idol as usual was the night's top draw in both total viewers (491,725) and in the 18-to-49 age range. On a storm-ridden night, Fox4's 9 p.m. local newscast also prospered with twin wins and a robust 249,325 total viewers.
In the four-way local news competitions, CBS11 took the 10 p.m. trophy in total viewers with 235,474 while WFAA8 won the 25-to-54 gold (key advertiser target audience for news programming) in a very close fight with Fox4, NBC5 and CBS11.
Otherwise it was Fox4's day, with the station running the table in both ratings measurements at 6 a.m. and at 5 and 6 p.m.
