Local Nielsen ratings snapshot (Wed., Nov. 14)

By ED BARK
Belo8's newscasts fell just short of a rare double grand slam Wednesday for the second time in the ongoing November sweeps. But the bigger news is CBS11's strong second place standing at the mid-point of the tri-annual competition.

Also of note: Belo8 is hanging tough in the total homes race at 6 a.m., where Fox4 still has a relatively slim lead.

In Wednesday's results, Belo8 won at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. in total homes and among 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming. It also topped the 6 a.m. Nielsens in the 25-to-54 demo, but ran slightly behind Fox4 in total homes.

At the halfway mark, NBC5's 10 p.m. ratings have plunged off a cliff into a third-place thicket. The once dominant Peacock also is running no better than third in total homes in the other three major newscast battle zones. And it's barely holding on to second place at 10 p.m. among 25-to-54-year-olds.

Here's the way it looks at the halfway mark, with 10 of 20 weeknights in the books:
