Local Nielsen ratings snapshot (Wed., Aug. 18) -- big day demographically for Fox/Fox4

By ED BARK
The slumping Texas Rangers hibernated in afternoon hours Wednesday, giving prime-time "reality" shows and Fox4's 9 p.m. newscast a reprieve from this summer's baseball fever.

CBS' Big Brother 12 opened the night with 7 p.m. wins among total D-FW viewers and advertiser-coveted 18-to-49-year-olds. NBC's new one-hour edition of America's Got Talent then had Wednesday's biggest haul in total viewers with 237,521.

Otherwise it was all Fox and Fox4. The network's second hour of Masterchef handily beat Talent in the 18-to-49 demographic before Fox4's 9 p.m. local newscast swept that hour in both ratings measurements against rerun crime dramas on ABC, CBS and NBC.

Over on Fox Sports Southwest, the injury-depleted, first-place Rangers went down for a third straight time at Tampa Bay while just 74,649 viewers witnessed the carnage in a game that ended shortly before 3:30 p.m. Texas returns to prime-time Thursday at Baltimore, and they'd be wise to get well fast.

In local news derby results, Fox4 had a rare perfect day among 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming on most stations. The 6 a.m. and 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscast competitions all were won by Fox4, which added a first place tie at 6 a.m. in total viewers with NBC5 and WFAA8.

WFAA8 otherwise rang the ratings bell with total viewer wins at 5, 6 and 10 p.m.

MORE BABY NEWS -- Shon Gables, WFAA8's morning weekend anchor, is a new mother again. She delivered her first girl, named Peyton, this week after birthing two sons in two previous marriages.

Gables joins colleague Shelly Slater on WFAA8's maternity leave list. Slater had her first child, Hutcheson Kent, late last week.
