Local Nielsen ratings snapshot (Tues., Aug. 19)

By ED BARK
Night 12 of NBC's Olympics coverage again wiped out everything, including ABC's Wipeout.

The Summer Games averaged 453,022 D-FW homes from 7 to 11 p.m., peaking at 565,059 between 10:30 and 10:45 p.m. A total of 323,935 homes hung in to catch NBC5's delayed 11 p.m. local newscast.

Meanwhile on MY27, the Texas Rangers' lopsided loss to the Detroit Tigers bunted with 38,970 homes. The most-watched attraction opposite the Olympics, a repeat of CBS' ever-resilient NCIS, drew 180,234 homes at the 7 p.m. hour.

NBC5's 5 and 6 p.m. local newscasts, served as appetizers for the Summer Games, continued to win in both total homes and with 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming.

CBS11 took two golds in the downsized 10 p.m. news competition, although its total homes number (112,038) was barely one-third that of NBC5's Olympics-aided 11 p.m. newscast.

The 6 a.m. wins went to NBC5 in total homes and WFAA8 among 25-to-54-year-olds.
