Local Nielsen ratings snapshot (Tues., Sept. 6) -- FX's Sons of Anarchy rolls with 4th season premiere

By ED BARK
Sons of Anarchy left tire treads on the competition in TV's most-sought after demographic Tuesday night.

The Season 4 premiere of FX's Sopranos on two-wheelers was Tuesday's most-watched prime-time attraction among advertiser-craved 18-to-49-year-olds, even beating the likes of NBC's summertime kingpin, America's Got Talent.

SOA, airing at 9 p.m., had 98,718 D-FW viewers in the 18-to-49 age range while Fox4's competing 9 p.m. local newscast made the night's second-best showing with 82,265 viewers in this key demographic. NBC's two-hour edition of Talent ran far behind with 49,359 viewers of the 18-to-49 persuasion.

Tuesday's overall most-watched prime-time program, CBS' 8 p.m. rerun of NCIS: Los Angeles, had 256,251 total viewers, 65,812 of them in the 18-to-49 demo.

The first-place Texas Rangers' 8-0 win at Tampa Bay averaged 159,291 total viewers on Fox Sports Southwest, also with 65,812 of them in the 18-to-49 motherlode.

All four major providers had at least one popsicle in the four principal local news races.

WFAA8 won at 10 p.m. in total viewers while NBC5 took first place with 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming.

Fox4 swept the 6 a.m. competitions and also won at 5 and 6 p.m. with 25-to-54-year-olds.

NBC5 was tops at 5 p.m. in total viewers, as was CBS11 at 6 p.m.
