Local Nielsen ratings snapshot (Thurs., Aug. 6) -- Fox/CBS split spoils

By ED BARK
Fox's summer finale of So You Think You Can Dance, which returns in the fall, had just enough punch to prevail from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday night, although a crime rerun again drew prime-time's largest audience.

Dance averaged 152,789 D-FW viewers Thursday, peaking at 186,004 in the final 15 minutes. It also won among advertiser-preferred 18-to-49-year-olds during those two hours.

CBS then vaulted to the top with its 9 p.m. rerun of The Mentalist, which flexed with 212,576 total viewers in shrugging off Fox4's Dance-infused 9 p.m. local newscast (152,789 viewers). Mentalist also was the top draw with 18-to-49-year-olds.

WFAA8's 10 p.m. local newscast got the usual skimpy lead-in from ABC's Private Practice repeat. But it impressively tripled that audience to win in total viewers with 219,219 while runnerup CBS11 had 172,718.

WFAA8 also took the gold among 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming. CBS11 likewise ran second in that measurement.

In Thursday's other local news derby faceoffs, the 6 a.m. verdict uncommonly went to Fox4, which nipped NBC5 by one-tenth of a rating point in both measurements.

WFAA8 won at 6 p.m. in total viewers, with NBC5 on top with 25-to-54-year-olds.

WFAA8 also ran first at 5 p.m. in total viewers while sharing the 25-to-54 gold with Fox4.
