The synergistic D-FW partnership
between Pegasus News and Fox4 is over almost before
it started. A corporate level cheese from afar
squelched it, according to a very detailed account from Pegasus main man Mike
Orren.
Unclebarky.com, whose weekday local ratings reports are posted gratis on Pegasus, knows the pain of corporate interruptus. That's why this site remains a renegade lone wolf for the most part. Or a mad cur dog if you prefer. Had enough of that Belo poker game. In the end, one corporate naysayer held all the cards. And it didn't and still doesn't matter whether or not he's playing with a full deck.
Making business deals with "Big Media" can be hazardous to one's independence, let alone their coping mechanisms and overall mental well-being. Orren says he's learned that painful lesson anew, and won't be fooled again.
That said, I also should say this. Fox Broadcasting was one of the "early adaptors" to unclebarky.com, and has sent press materials and review DVDs from Day One. In fact, all of the major broadcast and cable networks have been most cooperative in feeding this growing little enterprise, which turns six months old on St. Patrick's Day.
In return they don't expect favorable treatment or reviews. They just want a fair shake. That's an old-school term, but it still applies. Just be wary of those handshake deals. The best-laid plans and partnerships can be waylaid in a finger snap when somebody way up there doesn't like you, know you or "get it." Got it?
