Michael Irvin's new Dallas Cowboys training camp series for Spike TV now has a name and a premiere date.
It's 4th and Long, which will launch on Monday, May 18th at 9 p.m. (central). It's scheduled for 10 episodes.
The Hall of Famer and former Cowboys receiver will shepherd 12 Cowboys hopefuls, with the winner getting a spot on the team's training camp roster. The show's six defensive backs will be mentored by ex-Cowboy Bill Bates, with former assistant coach Joe Avezzano yelling at the half-dozen wide receivers.
Much of the show was filmed in the Cotton Bowl, the Cowboys' first home. Guest stars abound, including former Cowboys Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Drew Pearson, Daryl Johnston, Jay Novacek, Nate Newton, Darren Woodson and Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson, plus current Cowboy Terence Newman.
Former 49er great Jerry Rice also is on board. And Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will appear throughout the series, says Spike.
The show's 12 hopefuls were picked with the assistance of Scout.com, with an eye toward "unearthing the best overlooked, underrated and unsigned talent" available.
