Countdown to Christmas: Video 10

WFAA8 sports anchor Dale Hansen's "Thank God For Kids" Christmas season video had another go of it Sunday night. He's been doing this since 1982.

The song is from the Oak Ridge Boys, and Hansen remains unabashedly sentimental about reprising this station-produced music video every year around this time. It always ends with him snuggling his then pre-teen son and daughter from a previous marriage.

Last year's "Thank God For Kids" segment included Hansen's much-noted commentary on both his shortcomings as a father and his grown children's supposedly childish ways. This year he stayed away from that very touchy topic, instead gently talking about his 16-year-old granddaughter and a longtime friend who recently lost his 20-year-old son in a car accident.

Hansen also found a way to work in a quote from Abraham Lincoln: "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."

Here's the latest "Thank God For Kids" video and Hansen's postscript. Some might find it mawkish, others may be inspired. Whatever your thoughts, it again joins WFAA8's Santa's Helpers toy drive as D-FW television's longest standing holiday traditions.
