Belo8 rolled to a fifth straight 10 p.m. win Tuesday while Fox4's 9 p.m. newscast continued to prosper against competing network entertainment programming.
This time Belo8 knocked off the Peacock despite inheriting a small lead-in disadvantage from ABC's 9 p.m. attraction, Boston Legal. The closing quarter-hour of Legal lured 199,920 homes, with Belo8's 10 p.m. newscast then jumping to 249,900 homes.
NBC's Law & Order: SVU drew 216,580 homes in its final 15 minutes. NBC5's newscast then held steady at 218,960 homes to finish second at 10 p.m.
The Peacock still leads Belo8 among advertiser-prefered 25-to-54-year-olds, and won that 10 p.m. battle again Tuesday. But NBC5 now trails Belo8 in homes after nine of the February sweeps' 20 weeknights. And it hasn't lost in that measurement since November 2001.
Fox4's prime-time local news, coming off a healthy lead-in from House, finished a strong second from 9 to 10 p.m., just 4,760 homes behind Law & Order: SVU. But the newscast easily topped the field among 18-to-49-year-olds, the key advertiser target audience for entertainment programming.
Fox's American Idol as usual dominated the 7 to 8 p.m. slot, with its 364,140 homes more than double the draw for CBS' runnerup NCIS.
Idol bounced 16-year-old Krum, Texas phenom Baylie Brown after she forgot lyrics during a group-sing. But Waxahachie's Jimmy McNeal is still in the running for a spot among the show's 24 finalists, who will be announced Wednesday night.
Fox4 Good Day anchor Tim Ryan may have misspoke Wednesday morning when he told viewers that McNeal already had made it to next week's Idol elimination rounds. Or maybe he really knows something.
Good Day otherwise came up short at 6 a.m., finishing second to NBC5 in homes and third among 25-to-54-year-olds, where the Peacock and Belo8 tied for first.
Belo8 won at 5 and 6 p.m. in both ratings measurements.
