Sometimes it just takes a single kind gesture.
On a recent, frigid night in Dallas, Telemundo39 reporter Fernando Mejia felt compelled to give his coat to a homeless man who had walked into his live shot.
With an assist from sister station NBC5, a coat drive kicked in. And at last count, 1,048 coats have been donated to The SoupMobile in Dallas, which annually hosts a holiday event for the homeless at the downtown Dallas Omni Hotel.
SoupMobile is still taking donations, and the coats will be distributed on Christmas Day. The SoupMobile address is 3017 Commerce St., Dallas, TX 75226. There also is a SoupMobile church at 2423 S. Good Latimer St., Dallas 75215.
Here’s the video on how it all began.
