Uncle Barky's Countdown to Christmas -- Episode 1

Thirty seasons ago, the 1986 Dallas Cowboys gave coach Tom Landry his first losing season since 1965.

It didn’t start out that way, though. The Cowboys won six of their first eight games before losing seven of their last eight. But the unfairly maligned Danny White broke his wrist during Game 9, a 17-14 loss to the New York Giants that sent Dallas on a downward spiral under backup quarterback Steve Pelluer. Four of the team’s losses were by four points or less.

Through it all -- or perhaps before the season started -- a collection of Cowboys participated in trying to sing “Christmas in Dallas.” White was picture book handsome, and of course also performed with utmost sincerity during his closeups. Beyond two other easily recognized performers -- Herschel Walker and Bill Bates -- see how many more you can identify.

The four-minute video remains cornily charming. Or maybe I’m just getting soft in the head. Here we go with Episode 1 of our annual “Countdown to Christmas.”
