The NBA’s conference championship series, particularly the Houston Rockets vs. the Golden State Warriors, continued to put up winning numbers in a D-FW market not known as a hoops hotbed.

Houston’s down-to-the-last-seconds Game 5 win on TNT Thursday outdrew all other TV attractions in both total viewers 235,029) and with advertiser-coveted 18-to-49-year-olds (137,306). The 18-to-49-year-old haul more than tripled Thursday’s second-best total of 40,568 for Fox4’s 9 p.m. local newscast.

On Wednesday, the Boston Celtics’ rout of the Cleveland Cavaliers on ESPN also ranked as the day’s top draw among 18-to-year-olds with 96,739. But the game’s average of 149,564 total viewers ran second to CBS’ latest season finale of Survivor (213,663 viewers) and its followup one-hour “reunion” show (170,930). NBC’s two-hour season-closer of Law & Order: SVU tied Celts-Cavs for the runner-up spot in total viewers.

Here are the Wednesday and Thursday local news derby results.

Wednesday -- On the closing day of the May ratings “sweeps,” TEGNA8 drew the most total viewers at 10 p.m. while Fox4 won by a wide margin with 25-to-54-year-olds (main advertiser target audience for news programming).

Fox4 swept the 6 a.m. competitions and NBC5 did likewise at 5 and 6 p.m.

Thursday -- Fox4 ran the table at both 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. while NBC5 notched twin wins at 5 p.m. The Peacock and CBS11 tied for the top spot in total viewers at 6 p.m., with Fox4 alone in first with 25-to-54-year-olds.
