CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley says he's powered by Texas upbringing and WFAA8 apprenticeship

Scott Pelley is nearing the end of his first three eventful months as anchor of the CBS Evening News. He met with a hotel ballroom full of TV writers earlier this month during the CBS portion of the Television Critics Association summer "press tour." Texas was very much a topic, as were his down-the-middle approach to delivering the news and what he learned in the early-to-late 1980s at Dallas-based WFAA8. Bert Lozano, who left WFAA8 early in 2007 after three years on the Dallas-based station's reporting staff, has been hospitalized after suffering a reportedly major heart attack over the weekend. Lozano, 42, has worked in the Dallas office of the Weber Shandwick public relations firm since departing WFAA8. More details are here.

Hello, I must be going -- again. Yes, I know. Your friendly content provider just got back from the two-week Television Critics Association "press tour," during which unclebarky.com gave way to dispatches for locatetv.com.

But this is for a very big event. Darlin' daughter Liz is getting married this weekend in Florida to the man of her dreams. So off we go for a week to be very much remembered and cherished. Sh*t keeps hitting the fan at WFAA8 -- both forcefully and benignly

Wednesday's incident between Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price and WFAA8 investigator Brett Shipp continues to create a big buzz in D-FW. In an interview with unclebarky.com, Shipp says he won't file any assault charges after Price shoved him and later verbally threatened him while the cameras rolled. Uncle Barky returns -- and restarts with a Maria Barrs exit interview

It's great to be back in the blast furnace after two weeks out West on the Television Critics Association "press tour." And as long as we're this close, I say let's go for the *&%#@+*$#&@ record of consecutive 100 degree days.

The big news while I was gone was Fox4 news director Maria Barrs' decision to leave the Dallas-based station after 13 years in that position. I tweeted the news from afar. But we now have an interview with Barrs on where she's going and why. It's on the Dallas-Fort Worth TV page.

Also, George Lopez and his TBS talk show, Lopez Tonight, suddenly will be goners after Thursday's show. The network announced the cancellation Wednesday. We take a closer look on the Network News & Reviews page.
