ABC's Game 1 of the NBA Finals proved to be a ratings rattler in D-FW, with big numbers for the Oklahoma City Thunder's second half dismantling of the melt-down Miami Heat.
Stretching to 10:40 p.m., the game averaged 359,027 viewers Tuesday night, with a peak crowd of 541,928 in the closing minutes. That wiped out everything in its path. Thunder-Heat also dominated among advertiser-prized 18-to-49-year-olds, more than doubling the numbers for any competing attraction.
In the 7 p.m. pre-game hour, CBS' NCIS repeat topped the total viewer Nielsens with 230,319 while Fox's Hell's Kitchen comfortably won from 7 to 8 p.m. among 18-to-49-year-olds.
The Texas Rangers' 9-1 rout of Arizona on Fox Sports Southwest averaged 182,901 total viewers in finishing far behind the NBA Finals.
Monday night's deciding Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals, won by the L.A. Kings in a 6-1 rout of the New Jersey Devils, mustered 67,741 viewers on NBC. Fox4's 9 p.m. local newscast had prime-time's biggest audience, with 182,901 viewers.
Here are the four-way local news derby results:
Monday -- WFAA8 had a gainful day, sweeping the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. competitions in total viewers and 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming. Fox4 notched the other two wins with a 6 a.m. sweep.
Tuesday -- WFAA8's regular 10 p.m. start time was rubbed out by the NBA Finals, leaving CBS11 in position to sweep a downsized three-way competition.
NBC5 crowed in the early morning with a pair of 6 a.m. wins while WFAA8 ran the table at 6 p.m. The ABC station also took the 5 p.m. gold in total viewers and tied NBC5 for first place with 25-to-54-year-olds.
